Who are we?

My name is Marijke Koppenol. I’m married to Bert Koppenol and we have two sons, Chiel and Wouter, which is how we came up with our kennel name, van ‘t Chielewout.

We’ve been keeping Labradors since 1996. Things started with our blonde Lab Tara, bred by Gerda Dijkshoorn from Bleiswijk. Tara’s remarkable character and willingness to work made us want to have another Lab. Our second was black Lobke, also bred by Tara’s breeder.

Our first steps in the world of dog shows and hunting started with Lobke. Lobke’s good qualities soon became apparent and we therefore started thinking of a litter. After the required medical check-ups she got her first litter on 23 February 2001, consisting of nine black pups by Flanders Pride Voyager.

At the end of March 2001 Zoe, our first chocolate Lab was born at Liz Hardijzer’s. January 2004 saw the latest addition to our kennel with the coming of a beautiful black bitch called Chelsea, bred by Marian Nugteren’s Woefdram kennel.

We only intend to breed litters occasionally, valuing health, character and appearance. Working with dogs is very important to us, but simply walking our dogs gives us just as much pleasure. All litters are bred in our living room and remain there until the pups find a new home.

We are members of the Dutch Labrador Association and the Dutch Society of Breeders.
